INTERVIEW: Parker Williams plus #Giveaway! #Thriller #GayFic

Hello Parker and welcome to The Hat Party! <3 Thank you so much for subjecting yourself to the RANDOMNESS that is a Raine O'Tierney interview! Please don your best hat, and let's get this party started!

Brownie is not pleased, but she did it because she loves me. Or because I offered her a treat.

Tell us about a time you were done a great kindness.

I was a little kid, maybe seven or eight years old. I went to the library with my aunt (who was only about six months older than me….don’t ask, not idea how grandma and grandpa worked that out). We went across the street to the George Webb’s restaurant. We were going to buy a burger and split it, because that was all the money we had.

The waitress took our order and came back with two plates, each had a burger and was heaped with French fries and two sodas. When I told her we didn’t order those, and couldn’t pay for them, she said not to worry. The burgers were on her, and the sodas were from another customer.

That was a lesson to me. I tried to take it to heart and give back where I can.

Which literary character do you identify with most strongly?

If we’re talking my own characters, I’d like to say Benny. I want to be the strong one who is there for his friends with open arms, who will always try to help them solve a problem, and who loves them unconditionally.

So, you were editing along and zombies attack. And they are on fire! What do you do?

Apparently die. And, let's be honest, if I'm doing edits, I'd probably welcome it.

Describe yourself using a literary quote.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

You have 200 words—Make. Me. Swoon. (PLEASE!)

Benny took Addy's hand as they wandered the streets. He'd been in Milwaukee his whole life, but seeing things with Addy made them seem….fresh. His boy needed to see it all, smell it all, touch it all. And it sent ripples of desire through him.

"Hey, Benny?"

Benny tore himself away from his thoughts. "Yeah, little man?"

"Come down here, please."

Benny lowered himself until he was eye to eye with Addy. "What's up?"

Addy threw his arms around Benny's neck, and kissed him. In front of everyone! Benny moaned into his mouth, and Addy swept his tongue across Benny's lips. When he pulled away, Benny had no clue what he'd done to deserve a kiss like that, but he definitely wanted to know so he could do it more.

"What's that for?" Benny asked, straightening up.

Addy shrugged. "Because you're you. Because you make me happier than I've ever been. Because I love you."

Too choked up to speak, Benny lifted Addy off the ground and pulled him into a hug.

"Guess you love me, too, huh?" Addy said happily.

"More than you could ever know."

Addy squirmed until Benny put him down. Addy took his hand. "Come on, we've got a lot more to see."

"And a lifetime to do it in," Benny whispered.

What makes you inexplicably happy?

Having my eighteen year old cat crawl up on my lap and rub her face against mine. I'm so grateful for Star. She's my pretty kitty.

Sing us a song!

You can find love if you know where to look,
Just open the pages of an M/M romance book,
Here you'll find a new guy crush,
That makes the blood in your veins rush.

What one food item do you consider to be your arch nemesis?

Just one? So many foods are evil. Hominy. Liver (so glad I'm a vegan). Those two are ones I'd run from like a vampire from garlic.

Biggest mistake you’ve made in your writing career and what you’ve learned from it.

Letting others tell you that you can't. It cost me thirty years of writing time that I will never get back. I wish I could go back to talk to my fourteen-year-old self and make him understand that if he loves to write, don't let anyone dissuade him. (And I could use big words like dissuade, because he'd totally understand them.)

You’ve just inherited a dachshund farm —now what??

Go shopping. Need a lot of buns for those wieners.

An act of violence destroys his family and ends the life he knows. To escape his haunted past, he joins the military, where, as a sniper, he is trained to kill with precision and detachment. When a covert organization offers him a new purpose, he becomes Haven, an operative devoted to protecting the innocent when he can and avenging them when he cannot.

Yet nothing about this growing relationship is one-sided. Sammy gives Haven a stability he’s never known, and Haven becomes the rock upon which Sammy knows he can depend.

When Sammy reveals something about the enemy Haven has been hunting for months, Sammy fears it will destroy what they’ve built and he’ll lose his home in Haven’s heart.

Warning: This book contains violent and dark scenes

When I was fifteen, I killed my first man. Every time Arnie, the guy my mother was shacking up with at the time, drank, he got it into his head she was cheating on him. He’d start slapping her, and that turned into full-fledged beating within a few months. When he was done, he’d start on my sister.
There were nights she’d crawl into bed with me, sobbing. For the longest of times, she wouldn’t tell me what happened, but when I found blood on her pajamas, I knew. I’d tried to stand up to him, but he beat me badly enough that I couldn’t go to school for two weeks until the bruises faded. But I got off lucky. The things he did to Chrissy gave me nightmares. I’d hear her cry out and knew there was nothing I could do but hide in my bed, my pillow covering my head. He was bigger, meaner, and stronger than me, and he reminded me of that fact constantly.
The old lady never said boo about it. She always forgave him and tried to justify what he did by telling me how much stress he was under. How he was a good man and didn’t mean it. It was just the drinking, she swore. It was more like he was a bastard and she was his meal ticket.
I came home one night and found him whaling on her, my sister’s body crumpled in a heap, her head smashed in. The son of a bitch had a gun in his hand, slick with blood, and he threatened to kill them both, screaming he wouldn’t let her leave. She slapped him. It wasn’t hard, but it shocked him enough that he dropped the gun. I picked it up. He sneered at me and called me a weak-willed fag.
I looked at the gun I held in my hand. The instrument of my revenge. The means to saving my sister.
“Give me the gun, you fuck. It’s not a dick, you wouldn’t know what to do with it.”
The bullet I put in his forehead showed him how wrong he was. He lay on the floor, blood bubbling from the wound, and his eyes locked on mine as he took his last breath. I wanted that fucker to know it was the weak-willed fag who had done this to him.

*What inspired you to write Haven's Creed?

A former coworker who really drove me to murderous thoughts. Instead of acting on them, I put her into a book. (She's Valerie.)

*Is there anything special you’d like us to know about your book?

It's dark and violent. This is not something that will appeal to everyone. Yes, there is elements of romance in the book. Yes, the characters do receive their HEA. Yes, some of the bad things that happen in the book are kind of graphic. Reader discretion is advised.

*What are your hopes for this title?

Same as with any book, I suppose. I want people to enjoy it, but I also want to pay my edit costs. :)
