INTERVIEW: Karen Stivali plus #Giveaway! #Newadult #Bisexual #MMromance

Hello Karen and welcome to The Hat Party! <3 Thank you so much for subjecting yourself to the RANDOMNESS that is a Raine O'Tierney interview! Please don your best hat, and let's get started!

You’ve been given the opportunity to go back in time and give your 13-year-old self a message. What do you say?

DO NOT GET THAT SUPREMELY DORKY SHORT HAIRCUT NEXT YEAR! And don’t be so scared to show people your writing---turns out a lot of them will really like it.

So, you were editing along and zombies attack. And they are on fire! What do you do?

Grab a stick and some marshmallows---two things I try to have on hand at all times.

You have 200 words—Make. Me. Swoon. (PLEASE!)

I almost never give out sneak peeks at my work in progress books….but this is from the book I’m currently working on. It’s another m/m romance but it’s not starring Collin or Tanner.  You’ll have to stay tuned to my blog or social media accounts to find out more about it after I finish it. In the meantime, see if this makes you at least a little swoony.

“Tell me.” It took some effort, but I kept my hand from shaking as I lightly stroked his back.
“What?”
“Anything. Anything you’ve ever thought about doing.”
His heart pounded hard enough I could feel it. I kneaded a knot in his shoulder until he exhaled in a warm rush, but there were still no words.
Inching closer, I let my lips hover near his ear, then placed a kiss on his neck.
His head turned until his eyes met mine. The normally bright blue was dark, stormy, almost eclipsed by the black expanse of his pupils.
“Tell me. I won’t judge. And we don’t have to do anything if you don’t want. I just want to know. What have you thought about trying?” I held my breath, praying he’d answer. For once God heard me.
Quinn shuddered then whispered. “Everything.”

What makes you inexplicably happy?

The sound of my kids belly-laughing.

What is your biggest, most-wild writing dream? (Nothing is too outlandish!)

Just having my work published and being read is enough of a dream. Wild? I don’t know….being asked to be in an anthology with my favorite authors? Having my books turned into a movie or TV series? Winning some coveted award? Any of those would be great.

What is your favorite literary quote?

“Write with the door closed; rewrite with the door open.” Stephen King

What one food item do you consider to be your arch nemesis?

Onions. I used to love them and put them on everything but I guess I hit my lifetime quota of onion consumption because now they make me violently ill and give me a tummy ache that lasts for days. They no longer even taste good to me because they make me so sick. And I know for sure, because if you eat out no matter how many times you say “no onions” one will invariably sneak into your food.

Biggest mistake you’ve made in your writing career and what you’ve learned from it.

I don’t think I’ve made any particularly huge mistakes, more like a bunch of little ones. What I’ve learned is that there are no right answers and that you have to go with the flow. If you sit around waiting for the ultimate right choice you’ll never get anywhere. You have to take risks and experiment and try new things---and sometimes that won’t go well. Other times it will be great. Those times are the reward plugging along through the times that weren’t so great.

And finally, for THE most important question of all: what kinds of dachshunds are the BEST kinds of dachshunds?

I’m an equal opportunity dog and cat person---I had both as a kid so I love both. I don’t have breed preference  and I’m a big fan of rescuing animals from the pound so I’d say whatever dachshund is there and in need of a home is the best kind---because he’s someone’s potential new best buddy.

Moments of doubt and jealousy threaten their happiness, and Collin and Tanner must confront the truth or risk losing it all.

Excerpt:
His smile twitched as he started up the next staircase. The last one. The one that led to our room and nowhere else. My hearth hammered hard and fast, and not from stair climbing. I needed to touch Tanner, soon, or every part of my body from my brain to my balls was going to simultaneously combust.
Tanner pushed our door open with exaggerated care and stepped inside. Jesus, is he trying to make me crazy? All I want is to….
My back slammed against the wall, and before I could complete my thought, Tanner’s mouth was on mine. The kiss was savage, tongue hot and heavy against mine, cock hot and heavy against mine. Even through our shorts, I could feel how ready he was. My head swam.
Desperate for more, I grabbed on to him, rolling us toward the door and kicking it shut. Tanner let out a grunt as I pressed him against the hard wood. Could anyone hear us? I didn’t care. I just needed this. Tanner. Now.
As soon as I shoved his T-shirt up his ribs, he yanked it off and tossed it aside. Warm smooth skin greeted my fingertips, filling my nose with his scent. God, I missed this. My mouth returned to his, tongues dueling as my hands fumbled with his fly. I couldn’t stop rubbing against him enough to get the zipper down. Tanner grabbed my ass, crushing his cock alongside mine, humping against me with enough intensity I had to force myself not to come.
I didn’t want that. Not yet. Not standing against the door when that crazy big bed was only feet away. As if he read my mind, Tanner shoved me backward, taking advantage of the moment our bodies parted to strip off his shorts. I tugged off my shirt, and before I could launch it across the room, Tanner had my shorts undone and down. Kicking them away put me off-balance, and Tanner steadied me with one hand clutching the back of my neck and the other wrapped around my cock.
Whimpers echoed through the room. My whimpers. His thumb slicked over my swollen head, round and round in circles that left me dizzy and panting.
“Let’s try out the bed.” Tanner’s voice was low and thick. I’d have said yes to anything he asked with that voice.
I couldn’t actually say a word, so I nodded and pulled us down onto the mattress. Holy Jesus. Soft cool sheets, warm hard body, wet velvety tongue. Heaven. Fire Island was heaven.

BONUS QUESTIONS:

*What inspired you to write Moment of Truth?

Collin and Tanner go through such a difficult time in the first book---coming out, getting disowned, worrying about what people will think---I wanted them to have time to see what it was like to be together where the people around them were supportive. Of course no situation is perfect so this brought new challenges to them but I still wanted them to have a chance to be out together, as a couple, someplace safe and accepting.

*Is there anything special you’d like us to know about your book?

The main things I want people to know about this series are that all three books are about the same couple---Collin and Tanner---that all three are complete books (not a cliffhanger in site) but that they should be read in order because each book examines their relationship at a different point in their lives.

*What are your hopes for this title?

My hopes for this book are the same as every other I’ve written---I hope people read it and come away feeling like they know the characters and got to share in part of their lives. My favorite books are the kind where you come away feeling like the characters are people you actually know---so when people tell me they felt that way about my characters that’s the best compliment I can get.
