INTERVIEW: Izzy Van Swelm plus #giveaway! #mmromance

Hello Izzy and welcome to The Hat Party! <3 Thank you so much for subjecting yourself to the RANDOMNESS that is a Raine O'Tierney interview! Please don your best hat, and let's get started!

You’ve been given the opportunity to go back in time and give your 13-year-old self a message. What do you say?

Two things…One, don’t wait until you’ve drafted a future Nobel Prize winner before you start writing for real, which I was LOL, until my eyes were opened…still hoping to improve and write a Nobel winner one day :) and Two, be your real self and don’t worry so much about what others will say.

So, you were editing along and zombies attack. And they are on fire! What do you do?

Use it as an excuse to explain to my editor why my line edits are late, and set my cat on them…he’s a large, scary cat! Although, apparently a friend answered push them in a pool…I like his answer better. :)

Describe yourself using song lyrics.

I couldn’t do this… I asked my family for help… Husband said ‘Dreamer, you know you are a dreamer…’ Daughter said ‘You’re simply the best, better than all the rest’ Ah :), and I would add ‘Strange little girl where are you going? ...’

You have 200 words—Make. Me. Swoon. (PLEASE!)
(No pressure….lol ) Um… well this is a small extract from Soul Mate for SIN;
‘Oh this should be good, Gabe really loves dancing…I mean really loves to dance!’
Sin looked to where Julie was pointing and nearly swallowed his tongue. Bronski Beat’s ‘Why?’ pumped through the sound system, the rhythm caught by the men packed onto the dance floor. Gabe had removed his jacket and cropped top. His bare chest was gleaming with sweat, and the lights stroking over the crowd, caught his lean muscles. His painted on jeans showed just how much he loved dancing and men were grinding into his arse. Everyone seemed caught up in a sexual frenzy and Sin was sure if the song lasted any longer, he was going to come in his trousers just watching Gabe. When the song finished Gabe joked with a few of the men around him and kissed a couple of hopefuls. Sin hoped he was letting them down gently and not accepting phone numbers. Gabe plonked himself back down on the couch and took a long drink of his cola. ‘I’m getting too old and out of shape.’ He pouted, and Sin laughed along with the others.
‘Not from what I just watched,’ Sin assured him with a grin.
Gabe moved closer and whispered in his ear, ‘Did you drool?’

What makes you inexplicably happy?

Reading a good book, with a large cup of coffee liberally spiked with Baileys whilst sitting in our big leather recliner with a certain Dutchman…

What is your biggest, most-wild writing dream? (Nothing is too outlandish!)

Can I mention tentacles….  :)

My dream FOR my writing is for it to mean something special to someone. My writing isn’t really wild but I would like to try to write a story set in the distant future but no space stuff…how things would be for real people on Earth in the 31st Century for example…I do touch on that in Soul Mate for SIN.

What is your favorite literary quote?

We are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars. – Oscar Wilde

What one food item do you consider to be your arch nemesis?

Chocolate…I love it toooooooo much!

Biggest mistake you’ve made in your writing career and what you’ve learned from it.

Waiting too long to pursue being published….I’ve learned that you improve quicker if you just keep writing rather than waiting for approval.

And finally, for THE most important question of all: what kinds of dachshunds are the BEST kinds of dachshunds?

Well as they are known as ‘sausage dogs’ in England, I’d have to say ‘Vegetarian’

The effects of an attack on SIN, a twenty-nine year old University lecturer, reach out further into his future than SIN could ever imagine. In a story, which seems doomed to start with an end, SIN learns about the forever kind of love, and how family is not just biological. ‘Soul-Mate for SIN’ shows how twists of fate can take a loving, but ordinary family, from a small market town in Lincolnshire, England and turn them into something extraordinary.

*What inspired you to write Soul Mate for SIN?
I wanted to write a romantic story based on people I know, or have known and I wanted to set it in a fictional version of where I live…it sort of wrote itself after that. I had the plot and outline for the characters when I went to UKMeet in 2014 (the English version of GRL), which in itself was inspirational and such a good time! I had several writers before, during and after, helping me pitch my story to three different publishers, I was offered contracts and I chose Wilde City Press.

*Is there anything special you’d like us to know about your book?
I’ve included some of my outlook on life, regarding soul mates, in this book I suppose, and I wanted to write about people you might meet. I didn’t want to write about muscle men or action heroes (as lovely as they are *blush*), I wanted to write about how magical romance and love can be for everyday men (who can be hot too.) As I wrote, some of the family members of my main character wanted bigger roles, so it developed into a romance and how families are not just biological.

*What are your hopes for this title?
I hope readers like Soul Mate for SIN, as I am writing the sequel where my favourite character, in Soul Mate…, fulfils his dream and finds love too, so I’m hoping readers will want to know more about the lives of the people in my head. (Does that sound creepy? LOL)

Author Bio:
Izzy van Swelm is English, but took her Mother in Law’s maiden name as a pen name. Izzy dreams of a world where all sentient species have rights and respect. A world where LGBTQ lovers and friends, old and young, can walk holding hands meeting nothing more than the occasional affectionate eye roll. A world where intelligence, gentleness and compassion are the overwhelming attributes of politicians, and religion is practiced by those who believe, but never forced on those who do not.
Izzy is a romantic, a dreamer, a vegetarian and just a little eccentric. Izzy writes because she loves to tell stories, and she hopes that her stories will bring happiness, enjoyment and maybe to some…a little hope. - Author Page – Facebook
