Andrew had no intention of ever going back home. But circumstances force him to face his painful past and the friend who betrayed him. Andrew Finley has no intention of going back to his hometown—ever. After he’s caught hacking into the CIA, he builds himself a new life as a computer guy for the very government agency he hacked. But over the past few months, something has been bothering him, and his boss is acting more paranoid than usual. Every time an operation fails, Andrew collects information that could prove someone is selling secrets. Now he’s pretty sure his boss is trying to kill him, so he has no choice but to go back home to buy some time. Home may be more dangerous than facing his boss. Nine years ago, his former best friend and first crush Teddy betrayed him, and let his evil sister and her minions send him running. But he’s back now and not everything is as clear-cut as he thought. Teddy may not be a Judas but can Andrew catch his fireman without getting burned, or is coming home going to kill him? One corrupt boss, one evil sister, enough family drama to fill a dozen daytime chat shows and an ex-best friend whom he’s been in love with for half his life makes for one hell of an interesting trip home.

Excerpt:

Two hours later, Andrew was drunk. Well, truly and officially drunk.
But the good news was that he felt great and everything that had seemed so overwhelming before was crystal clear. The painting of a duck wearing a sailor hat had helped him talk through things.
Funny thing, though, the barman didn’t seem to want to talk to the duck. Some people were just rude. And now he was cut off.
“Hey, buddy. Where to?”
The barman called a cab and poured him into it as Andrew called goodbye to his duck friend. Rolling his head back on the headrest in the backseat of the cab, he gave the first address that came to mind when the driver repeated his question.
The only problem was that he was pretty sure it wasn’t his address they were heading to. It was dark outside now and the streetlights glowed. If he looked at them just right, squinting and scrunching his face, the lamps looked like a continuous line of brightness.
Cool.
After a few minutes, or what seemed like a few minutes in his drunken state, the cab pulled up to a large three-story building. It was the old Jones home.
The house stood on about four or five acres of land before the closest neighbors could be seen. The Jones were an old couple who his mother said run off to a retirement home in Hawaii and left the house in disrepair before selling it off to someone.
Someone—he knew who it was—but he just couldn’t seem to remember… Uh-oh.
Stumbling out of the cab, he fumbled in his pockets for his wallet. Shoving some bills at the driver, he figured he’d massively overpaid by the impressive wheel spin the cabbie managed as he sped away.
He was at the Teddy bear’s house. Andrew wondered if Teddy liked porridge.
Why couldn’t he be this funny when he was sober? The first sip of whiskey had tasted awful and almost made his ball sac shrivel up. But by the fourth, it was an exotic flavor scorching over his taste buds. Or should that be erotic?
And it gave him the clarity of mind to see things as they were and what he could do about them. He had to confront Teddy… Theo… Whoever the hell he was, and tell him why he was such a betraying bastard and demand that he stop looking so hot!
Now there was a good plan.
Bolstering his courage, Andrew stormed up the walk and pounded on the door.
Banging his fist over and over again against the wooden door made his head hurt but strangely he didn’t feel a thing in his hand. Raising his hand so he could see it, he flexed his fingers.
Nope he didn’t feel a thing. Huh.
He didn’t have time to see if the numbness had spread to other parts of his body, as the door opened and a very sleepy and very angry-looking Teddy stood with a hand on the door as though ready to shut in Andrew’s face.
“Who is it?”
“Hi, Teddy bear. Y’know I don’t drink as a rule but five minutes in your copnamy… No company, and I’m totaled. But you know what else? I see things clearly now,” he slurred.

About the Author:

I'm SA Welsh and I write because the voices in my head keep making me. I love reading and I love letting the characters and stories in my head come to life in a book. I can't function in the morning without a cup of tea and when I'm not writing I'm reading. I have enough books to last me through an apocalypse but don’t ask me to share them unless you are a fellow book worm and know how to treat and appreciate a good book. It is thanks to the writers that inspired me to put myself out there that I became an author and the editors that make sense of my chaos that I keep writing.
