BOOK BLAST: BA Tortuga's Wolf Run plus #Giveaway!

Cover Artist: Kris Norris
Publisher: Resplendence Books

Blurb(s): Mick is a lone wolf in all ways. He’s left his pack, he’s left his homelands and he’s on the road, footloose and fancy free. Well, at least until he wanders up to a fence and finds a little wolf running his ass off behind it. Mick stops to let the pup out and is stunned to hear the young wolf, Scotty, tell him “no”. Scotty's mate and best friend, Danny, asked Scotty to stay behind the fence, so he will be safe while Danny fights to support them both. All this leaves Mick’s fur standing on end. Maybe, Mick doesn’t need one mate to bring him home.

Maybe, he needs two.

Excerpt: He dropped his wolf form as soon as he was out of sight, his body lengthening into a biped. “Dude, why are you in a cage?”

The pup yelped and scrambled back, leaping onto the porch.

“Hey, I’m not here to hurt you. I can open the gate.”

The pup looked at him then boom, a lovely lean man stood there, shaggy blond hair curling around his face. “H-hey.”

“Hi. Would you like to run? I can get you out.” God, the kid was adorable and plenty old enough to play.

“Oh. Oh, no. Daniel would be so mad at me for getting out again.” Eyes the color of brandy caught the sun. “Daniel says I’ll get hurt, lost.”

“Does Daniel mistreat you?” Because Mick could beat someone down just for fun.

“Daniel? My Daniel?” The pup’s laugh was happy, joyous, the look on his face fond and warm. “Oh, no. Daniel loves me. He works for both of us. He brings me half his food every day. He’s a good mate. We… The Alpha said ‘too many males’, and we… Daniel pays for this home, he brushes me, he works all day every day.”

“Do you work?” Mick tilted his head, waiting, nodding in sympathy. Damn, it was hard for bachelor males to manage when thrust out on their own, especially ones who needed an alpha as much as this one did. It seemed like the kid barely held it together, at least on two legs. Sweet baby.

“I paint. I paint pictures, and I wash Daniel’s uniforms. I… I get… He follows rules better than me, and he can stop a shift, if he needs to. He can even work during the moon.”

Mick smiled, liking this kid a lot. “What’s your name, honey?”

“Scott. Scott Miller. What’s yours?”

Scott. It worked.

“I’m Mick Eagleheart. I like your belly. I kinda want to lick it.”

INTERVIEW: Capri S. Bard

Today we're talking to the lovely Capri S. Bard who actually went to school for a while in the town I grew up in. (I wonder if we were there at the same time? Did we pass each other in the city? Small world!)

Hello Capri and welcome to The Hat Party <3 Thank you so much for subjecting yourself to the RANDOMNESS that is a Raine O'Tierney interview! Please don your best hat, and let's get started!

What important thing would you give up in order to continue writing?

If I had to choose between writing and Dr. Pepper I would pick writing but there would be much whining involved.

Be totally honest. How awesome would you be at leading a moon colony?

If I could pick my own crew then I’d rock at leading a moon colony.

What is your super-secret, wildest, most outlandish writing dream?

Okay, here it is. I would love to take a year writing in a little villa in Italy while writing the next great sci-fi film.

Tell us about a time you were changed.

Heavens! That list is too long to share here. I mean it could be the births of my five daughters, when my husband was diagnosed with cancer - twice, being in an F5 tornado or the day I accepted myself. But I will stick to the subject at hand. Writing my sci-fi changed me. There is much autobiography in that book. It was cathartic to write and is my proudest writing accomplishment thus far. I am a better person for having written ‘For One Nen’. But I have to say it has intimidated me a bit because ever after I will be comparing any of my writing to that novel, which has set my bar high.

Give a shout-out to another author who may, or may not, know how much you appreciate them.

I thought about this for a while until I stopped trying to think of someone’s particular writing that has greatly influenced me and just realized several writers themselves have influenced me, one being Mel Odom. I met Mel a few years ago at a writer’s conference and learned a great deal from his lectures. I saw him again at a writer’s conference in Oklahoma a couple of months ago and his support and encouragement was timely and much appreciated. He’s a family man and just an all-around great guy.

You have 200 words—Make. Me. Swoon. (PLEASE!)

(This scene is made richer if you know that they are on a starship that is about to be hit by a deadly wave of particle radiation from a nova. Their ship’s shields have been compromised by the initial gamma ray burst. Death is probable.)

Tala moved as a dancer that knew each step and movement by heart. She closed the space between them but didn’t stop until she had pressed herself against her lover. Their kiss was heated by their passion, their love for each other, and their fear of what their future held. Each woman wanted to fill themselves with each other for as long as they could. Tala pulled away just enough for her lips to part from Deni’s.
Without opening her eyes Deni whispered, “I thought you needed a break.”
“Not from you,” Tala breathed into her ear. “Never from you.”

You’re writing along and you’re attacked by a horde of zombies…ON FIRE…how do you survive? Or do you become a zombie too?

This question made me laugh until I realized I was at a loss for answers. So, I asked my two oldest daughters, (Iona almost 15 and Isabel 13) if I would survive a zombie attack. Iona immediately said, “No.” Isabel said, “Only if you were attacked in the kitchen where the knives are.” She’s right. I do like knives. One of my main characters in my sci-fi wears a knife in her boot.

Do you have any special library memories?

I attended a school, (from k-7th grade) which had less than a hundred students. I can’t remember the school having a library. However I remember the baseball field in great detail. So I suppose it’s no surprise that my first memory of going to a ‘real’ library was when I was twelve. My Dad took me. He showed me how to use the card catalogue. I thought it was a brilliant system.

What was the trigger that made you first get really serious about publishing?

I had a little book that some friends knew about. When I moved several states away from my home state I thought if I made it available as an eBook then they could all read it. My partner and I decided to use Kindle Direct. Then people started asking, “When can I get one with your autograph?” That’s when we began to publish through Create Space. That was three years and several works ago. I’ve learned a great deal since then but I’ve remained with KDP and CS. After hearing Andrew E. Kaufman’s publishing story I believe I’ve made the right path as my career.

And finally, for THE most important question of all: what kinds of dachshunds are the BEST kinds of dachshunds?

This one is easy. With all the people and pets in my house already the best dachshund would have to be someone else’s pet. Where I could come over and play and cuddle with the cute little critter, and even spoil it rotten with treats and attention and then leave the hard work to the ‘real’ parent of the little guy.

For One Nen (sci-fi/lesbian romance) is an epic science fiction novel set on a starship named ‘The Egress’ that has been traveling for many generations under threat of annihilation from a nova.

While the passengers come from many tribes their histories are intertwined. A group of students who represent each tribe uncover truths about their shared past, which differ from the approved texts. They discover ancient journals that had been smuggled aboard the ship in a storage crate, which had never been opened. Courageously they question long-standing beliefs they have been taught to revere. The knowledge they uncover will rewrite history.

Meanwhile the ship’s shields have been crippled by the recent nova’s gamma ray burst. If the starship’s technical crew is unable to repair them before the wave of particle radiation overtakes them all will be lost.

The students are aided in their quest by Tala, the lovely and rebellious librarian. Her lesbian partner Deni, the spunky knife-wielding gardener, as well as the wise and mysterious Maven Sharla join her. Their teacher Tanik, raises a violent band of zealots in a futile attempt to quell this blasphemous movement that is leading her students astray.

They learn how Atenilek the giant, gave his life For One Nen; his tiny friend, Tinnen.

Journals and video documentaries reveal how a group of colonists from Earth warned the inhabitants of the doomed planet Reen of the coming nova and built the Egress.

One hand-written journal reveals the final piece of the puzzle. It relays an ancient text about the strong and beautiful Hrilla, who saved her people from a tyrant. The story goes on to tell of her companion Fbathin who sacrificed her life rescuing the remaining children from the Emperor’s madness. With this new revelation the students right a tragic wrong. They restore honor to the true heroes, the tribe that had long been hated and oppressed.

As the ship faces imminent destruction we see the various ways its passengers choose to spend their final hours.

“Don’t bother trying to hide it,” Tanik hissed. “You’re found out, you Het.” Tanik turned to her followers. “Just a dumb rebellious giant, still trying to hide his lies from us,” she cackled.
Aiden positioned himself in front of his sister and stood his ground.
Deni stood in front of Tala. But it was Tala that side-stepped Deni and stormed the angry group, holding her personal terminal as if it were a weapon. Holding up the terminal with both hands next to one shoulder, she placed herself between the mob and the video’s computer. With Teltel to her back she dared the mob to approach. Deni quickly joined her, then Benai and the other students.
However, as they did, one man in the back of the crowd of Tanik’s followers, lit a book on fire and dropped it into the tall white crate. It took only a minute for the flames to shoot high into the air.
Screams erupted from the entire crowd.
“This isn’t right,” Merari screamed at her teacher.
Mathis raced to aide Teltel, who gave no attention to the obvious chaos.
Trina grabbed a nearby bucket and began filling it with dirt from a nearby fallow table garden. She dragged it to the crate.
“Help us,” Bug yelled to Benai. Together they lifted the bucket and poured it into the crate, smothering some of the flames. When most of the flames had been extinguished, Trina scurried her small body up the side of the crate and jumped in.
“What are you doing?” Bug screamed after her. He followed her up and over.
Together they saved some of the books that had been in the bottom of the crate but had burned their feet in the process.
The same man who had started the fire took a piece of cloth and marched with intention to the video computer, and in a flash Teltel was standing in front of a fire. He pulled Mathis away and the two of them stood together without a word.
“Do something,” Merari screamed at Teltel.
But Teltel just stood tall and silent.
All at once Merari stormed the crowd, knocking Tanik squarely with her shoulders, slamming her tall Goweli teacher to the ground. At that moment, the other students charged the mob. The chaos was fueled by both sides with anger.
The Most Holy Maven stood, wringing her hands and wept for her people.
Over the sounds of mayhem came a scream; loud and long.
It was so piercing that one by one the fighting stopped, as they realized why the scream had come.
They looked out the large window of the fallow field into the blackness of deep space, where only things very close could be seen, due to the lights from their ship.
Out there, very close but slowly floating away, was a man.
“Turk,” The maven moaned. “No, no, no.”
Only moments earlier, Turk had come from the medical bay with determined steps to an airlock. He closed himself in with a turn of the long handle. It took him a moment, since his right arm was completely bandaged due to the burns he had sustained from the fire in the engine room.
“We took a chance,” he said aloud to himself. “If I’d been smarter…If someone else could’ve found the answer…” He held his left hand over a large round button beside the windowed door that separated him from the deadly void of deep space.
He took a deep breath and pulled his hand back from the button.
He wiped the sweat from his forehead with the tips of his fingers. Reaching out, he ran his drenched fingers across the window in front of him.
‘Forgive me’, he scrawled with a shaking hand. Then closing his eyes he punched the button, and the transparent doors of the airlock opened, and he was yanked out into the instant death that awaited him.

What inspired you to write the story you are promoting?

I’ve had nightmares since I was a small child, until just a few years ago. The back-story of FOR ONE NEN came from a terrible nightmare that I just couldn’t push out of my head. So, I began to write about it, which has always been a healthy way to help my head. At the time I was dealing with facing may lost relationships and I began to write this into the story. Righting many wrongs, so to speak.

Is there anything special you’d like us to know about your book?

My partner was the technical advisor for this book so I was learning some astrophysics while writing this book. We make a great team.

What are your hopes for this title?

(duh! Turned into a movie is my ultimate hope- ha)

BOOK BLAST: Draven St. James' Fused by Fire plus #Giveaway!

Book Name: Fused by Fire
Author Name: Draven St. James
Cover Artist: Dar Albert
Publisher: Loose ID

Michael prides himself on being the man that everyone can depend on until one of his firefighters is severely wounded on the job. Will he be allowed to process the situation alone? Not when a loud and persistent Simon Winters shows up on his doorstep. The man hasn't met a boundary he didn't skip across.

Simon has had the biggest crush on Lieutenant Firefighter Michael Donovan since the first day he saw him. Which just happened to be at an interview for a job to work as a firefighter. Before his desire to lick the gruff older man from head to toe affects his work, Simon transfers over to being a paramedic. Just when he's begun to build a life that doesn't include hot shower fantasies of Michael, the object of his angst is thrust into his path.

All too quickly, Simon begins to barrel through Michael's defenses and dig up the desires Michael has fought so hard to hide. As passions flare out of control, tragedies collide from every side. Michael's struggle to keep Simon at a distance starts to crumble beneath the weight of the secrets that Simon is hiding. Will Michael be able to protect Simon when he needs it the most or will he lose Simon forever?

Excerpt: Michael stepped forward and grabbed Simon by his shoulders. “Why are you really here?” he snarled.

“Because you’ve locked yourself away?” Simon whispered and gazed at him with eyes filled with concern.

That look stabbed into Michael. “And you care why?”

“Because…” Simon shrugged, dislodging Michael’s hold, and then cupped Michael’s face with a trembling hand. “What happened wasn’t your fault, and you needed someone to come and shove that truth into your face.”

“You picked the short straw?” Michael hated that Simon’s hand on his cheek brought him more comfort than anything else had. Just like at the hospital.

Simon shook his head, and his gaze fell to Michael’s lips. His hand came down to brush against the edge of Michael’s bottom lip. A pink flush rose along Simon’s cheeks.

Michael felt that innocent touch like a jolt through his body. He tilted Simon’s face up, and the sensual invitation in his eyes shocked and inflamed him.

He didn’t have the energy to fight against what he wanted, and right now that was Simon. With a groan of defeat, he smashed his lips to Simon’s and took the sweet oblivion that Simon offered.

BOOK BLAST: Lee Brazil's Less Than All plus #Giveaway!

Book Name: Less Than All
Author Name: Lee Brazil
Cover Artist: Laura Harner
Photograph: Dan Skinner
Publisher: Lime Time Press

Nicholas Danville doesn’t trust his lover to share the depth of his attraction.
He knows full well Victor must marry to fulfill his duty to his aristocratic family.
Assuredly marriage will mean the end of their liaison.

A youthful indiscretion leads to a humiliating encounter between Nicholas Danville and Lord Victor Ware. Nicholas is sent home in disgrace, and Victor continues life in the Ton. Years later, Nicholas's reproving parents send him to town to attain a degree of polish before he prepares for life as a member of the clergy.

A chance encounter with an old friend leads to a new confrontation between Nicholas and Victor. This time, the attraction between them burns brighter, Nicholas is old enough to know his own mind, and Victor is done with self-denial.

From ballrooms to gardens and opera houses, Victor sets about proving that a passionate liaison between two men is possible even under the narrow gaze of the Ton.

Peter had evidently taken the time to pull his glossy Hessians back on because Victor had swallowed half the glass before he heard the door click behind him. Lifting the glass to study the amber liquid in the firelight, he spoke without turning around. "I pay you an adequate allowance to cover your own establishment Peter, exactly because I do not wish to find hordes of drunken revelers have invaded my home."

"I'm glad for Peter's sake that you're a generous man, My Lord Ware. But I'd hardly call our little gathering a horde."

Victor whirled about to find Danville lounging in altogether too close a proximity. A single lingering glance impressed upon Victor the slender lithe frame, lovingly outlined by tight buff colored breeches, fine white linen shirt open at the neck. Both his discreetly embroidered waistcoat and his black tailcoat hung open. Danville’s inappropriate dishabille enticed him as the devil tempted sinners. He held up a hand as though to ward off the smaller man, but Danville stepped impossibly closer, and Victor groaned as his blood thrummed and his head swam.

Strong arms wrapped around his neck, tugging his head down, and soft wet lips pressed lightly against his mouth. "I've waited years for this moment, Ware."

Then Victor gave up listening, gave up fighting the response of his body as an agile tongue probed the seam of his lips, seeking entrance. He accepted Nicky's kiss, opened his mouth to suck at the questing tongue. He chased Nicky's tongue for what seemed like ages, his body hardening and heating with lust.

His arms closed around Nicky's slender waist, hauling the man close so he could seek solace for the ache of his prick in grinding against the silk of Nicky's evening breeches. The shattering of his whiskey glass on the hearth broke the mood, and Nicky pulled away, retreating to the door.

"I'm going now." He paused, hand on the doorknob. A strangely earnest expression crossed his face as he tilted his head to glance back at the stunned Victor. "Shall I return? Or do you forbid Peter's friends the run of your home?"

He slipped from the room while Victor struggled to frame a coherent response.

About the Author:

Somewhere in a small town in up-state New York are a librarian and a second grade teacher to whom I owe my life. That might be a touch dramatic, but it's nevertheless one hundred percent true.

Because they taught me the joy of reading, of escaping into worlds crafted of words.
Have you ever been nine years old and sure of nothing so much as that you don't belong? Looked at the world from behind glasses, and wondered why you don't fit?

Then turn the page and see… there you are, running from Injun Joe in a dark graveyard; there you are fencing with Athos; there you are…beneath the deep blue sea- marveling at exotic creatures with Captain Nemo.

I found myself between the pages of books, and that is why I write now, it's why I taught English and literature for so many years, and it's why my house contains more pounds of books than furniture.

If I'd had my way, I'd have been a fencer…or a starship captain, or a lawyer, or a detective solving crimes. But instead, I am a writer, and that's the best thing in the world to be if you ask me, because as a writer, I can be all those things and more.
If I hadn't learned to value the stories between the pages, who knows what would have happened? Certainly not college…teaching…or writing.

Living on the Edge:

Sometimes it takes willpower to resist temptation but courage to give in.

There he is given into the custody of its owner, the enigmatic and demanding Heath Anders, and his business partner Joe Dexter.

From the moment Heath takes charge of Aiden he recognises the boy's submissive nature, even though it is well hidden beneath a veneer of snarky attitude. But for twelve months, Aiden will be his responsibility and Heath cannot allow himself to get involved whilst the boy is obliged to obey him.

Aiden settles into his new life with the help of Olly, Joe's pretty, submissive boyfriend, who is very perceptive when it comes to noticing the sparks of attraction flying between Aiden and Heath. Slowly and gently, he teaches Aiden that submission is not a weakness and to accept his desire to be dominated.
Unable to resist, Heath starts to test Aiden's willingness to be obedient, and against all the odds, love (and lust) start to bloom. Aiden, however, is not quite what he seems and his past is about to endanger all their lives.

From Living on the Edge :

He must have drifted back to sleep, because the next time he woke the light was blocked by Heath’s broad-shouldered frame standing over him. The sheets and blankets on his bed had slipped down to his hips, and he was suddenly very aware of Heath’s steely eyes on his body. Self-consciously, he started to pull the sheets up.

That was it. Just one word, and it was enough to stop him moving. He wondered fleetingly if Heath practised mind control.

“What do you mean, no?”

Heath didn’t speak. His expression was set and stern. God, he looked glorious. Then he shot a hand out and yanked the bedcovers down to the foot of the bed, leaving Aiden totally exposed.

“What the hell?” Aiden blushed furiously and scooted up the bed, attempting to cover his half-hard cock with his hands. All his blood seemed to be rushing south and there was nothing he could do about it.

“Move your hands.”

It was an order. Plain and simple. Every atom of Aiden’s body screamed resistance, but his hands didn’t seem to be connected to his brain—they moved to grasp the edges of the bed. He didn’t have to look to know that his cock was swelling into iron hardness, standing proud from his body. He could feel the cool sensation of air hitting the moist tip. His balls felt tight against his body. Christ—he thought he might come just from knowing that Heath was examining him with a predatory look on his face.

Time must have slowed, because Heath seemed to be staring at him forever before he spoke.

“Very good. I expect obedience at all times. There are fresh clothes on your chair. Get dressed and come downstairs. My office is off the main hall.” Then he turned and left.

Aiden felt even more feverish than he had before. His skin was slick with sweat that was rapidly cooling. His dick throbbed and he felt…shit, he had no idea how he felt. Aroused, confused, indignant, bewildered… He didn’t know where to start.
