INTERVIEW: Barbara Elsborg and #Giveaway

Today we're talking to Barbara Elsborg who comes to us with her ADORABLE hat, her son's beautiful dachshund, and a giveaway! Check out the end of the interview for details.

Hello Barbara and welcome to The Hat Party <3 Thank you so much for subjecting yourself to the RANDOMNESS that is a Raine O'Tierney interview! Please don your best hat, and let's get started!

If they were handing out awards for writing assets, in which category would you snag first place?

Oh, that’s tricky. Umm maybe my dialogue. I like to think I’m good at that. I do like to be funny. My family laugh at me all the time. Sometimes when I don’t even mean to be funny! Pigs.

Your thoughts on libraries: GO!

Like them. Haven’t been in one for about ten years though. Google and the Internet have made research so easy and buying books too. But I do think libraries should be supported. Ooh I just remembered I have been in a library – the British Library – twice. FANTASTIC! Seeing Jane Austen’s manuscript, Dickens writing etc. I want to set a story there.

Is it harder for you to talk for an hour straight or stay silent for an hour straight?

No problem with either. I’m very happy with my own company but if talking is required, I can do that too. Soon that will be put to the test as I’ve been asked to talk at two hotels about erotic romance – charity events! I hope people turn up.

We’re often changed in big ways by people who don’t realize they’ve done anything for us at all—tell us a story of being changed!

Winnie – my son’s miniature dachshund not a person. I never had a pet as a child. Never let the kids have anything other than hamsters . So the moment son leaves home, he bought Winnie. Then son came back to live at home with Winnie who peed on every carpet and we had to have them all replaced. But that dog could kiss for England. He’s just lovely. The joy with which he greets me when we go visit him in the States makes me cry. When we left Texas after our last visit to son, Winnie pushed his way out of the house and got in the rental car. I learned what unconditional love was, how great it was to be adored, how much fun it was looking after a dog, how loyal they are. Oh I could easily talk for an hour about Winnie!

Would you walk across the country on foot for the assurance of a Big Six publishing contract?

Which country? I could make it across the UK, not sure about the States BUT yes, I’d try.

You have 200 words—Make. Me. Swoon. (PLEASE!)

From my latest WIP

Every muscle in Harper’s body went taut, except for his heart which pounded so hard, he almost expected it to burst through his ribs and land in the pizza box. He reached for his beer to take a swallow in an attempt to look normal and ended up inhaling it so that he coughed uncontrollably. He pushed himself up and gripped the edge of the table. Malachi leapt to his feet and raised his palm as if he were going to slap him on the back, but then dropped his hand.
“Are you okay? Does the no-touching thing still apply if you’re choking to death or if you need mouth to mouth? Or if you have some creepy crawly making its way up your body somewhere you can’t reach? I’d have to knock it off with something other than my hand though and I draw the line at scorpions. You’re on your own if one of those decides to explore.”
Harper stopped coughing and cleared his throat.
“Ah,” Malachi sighed. “No mouth to mouth then. That’s a pity.” He reared back. “Shit. I’m such a wanker. You’re not gay. It’s a wonder I haven’t had my beautiful face rearranged before now. Sorry. I have crap radar—gaydar. There’s nothing about you that says gay.”
“Nothing?” Harper managed to say.
“Apart from the eye makeup. A little overdone.”

You have three words: describe your writing dreams.

Best seller list

What is your superpower? What is your Kryptonite?

Superpower is the ability to iron while watching TV and plotting novel. ha ha. Kryptonite is chocolate. Any in the house is doomed to be consumed even knowing how bad it is for me.

Zombies attack while you’re editing your latest novel. These zombies are ON FIRE. How do you fare? Are you now a flaming zombie?

Are you kidding? I’d pick up my laptop, get in the car and run them over, and over and over and over. And over – just to make sure. Then toss husband out of the car if they still wanted flesh. He’s much fleshier than me.

And finally, for THE most important question of all: what kinds of dachshunds are the BEST kind of dachshunds?

Winnie – long haired English cream miniature dachshund – who is the best little doggie in the world. Sadly he lives in Texas with my son and not in the UK with us. Sob.

No one can tattoo better than Inigo, a two hundred year old vampire, who works on human and supernatural skins. But he’s never tattooed a faerie and when a bunch of them insist he comes with them to tattoo one of their kind, saying no proves not to be an option. His skin is Oberon, the faerie king, and Inigo fears this will be the last tattoo he’ll ever do.

The moment Micah lands in the faerie king’s bed chamber, he knows the guy is trouble. But if he’s to save his sister and his family, let alone the job he’s paid to do, he has to stay in Faerieland and endure Oberon’s sadism. When he’s thrown into a vampire’s cell, covered in blood, he fears this day will be his last.

About the Author:

Barbara Elsborg lives in West Yorkshire in the north of England. She always wanted to be a spy, but having confessed to everyone without them even resorting to torture, she decided it was not for her. Vulcanology scorched her feet. A morbid fear of sharks put paid to marine biology. So instead, she spent several years successfully selling cyanide.
After dragging up two rotten, ungrateful children and frustrating her sexy, devoted, wonderful husband (who can now stop twisting her arm) she finally has time to conduct an affair with an electrifying plugged-in male, her laptop.
Her books feature quirky heroines and bad boys, and she hopes they are as much fun to read as they are to write.

Barbara is offering a copy of Bloodline to one lucky winner! Comment between now and April 3rd 11:59 PM CDT for your chance to win.
