BOOK BLAST: Cooper Davis's A King Undone #MMRomance #AltHistory

A KING UNDONE (Noble Pleasures Book One) by Cooper Davis
Genre: Male/Male Alternative Historical fantasy Romance
Publisher: Samhain 12/9/14

Sometimes you have to risk everything, to follow your heart…
Noble Pleasures, Book 1

In a world where gentlemen openly court and marry fellow noblemen, the threat of scandal still lurks behind every velvet drape for kings and princes. Such has been the fate for King Arend Tollemach, forced to sacrifice his heart on the altar of regal duty.

Now that his wife is dead and his royal obligations are at an end, he’s ready to take an unthinkable risk. King Arend seeks a concubine from Temple Sapphor, a secretive, gated world where he will finally shed his virginity—as least as it pertains to making love to a man.

Julian never thought he’d spend ten years on the temple shelf, passed over again and again. Just when he despairs of ever finding placement in a nobleman’s bed, Arend walks into the temple. A lonely eyed, beautiful king who could easily steal his heart.

Arend discovers he has no problem opening his bed to the exquisite concubine. The problem lies in finding the key to his long-shuttered heart.
Warning: Contains a beautiful, virgin king desperate to bed another man, a concubine who fantasizes about being claimed and revered by a strong monarch, and a sea of scandal set against a sensual, palatial backdrop.

About the Author:

Cooper Davis first discovered the allure of m/m storytelling when she watched My Beautiful Launderette with a college roommate. Later, her passion for stories about men falling in love and finding their HEA together was stoked by online slash fiction. After years as an avid fan of m/m and slash, Cooper finally decided to try her hand at penning her own stories about same-gender romance and love.

A voracious reader across all subgenres of m/m fiction, Cooper is particularly fond of courtships set against the breathless backdrop of scandal and intrigue found in period drawing rooms. She is thrilled that her first historically themed m/m romance series debuts this December with A KING UNDONE (Samhain).

COVER REVEAL: Chris Scully's Nights Like These plus #Giveaway! #MMRomance #Mystery

Book Name: Nights Like These
Author Name: Chris Scully
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Cover Artist: Bree Archer
Words: 69,000
Categories: Gay Fiction, M/M Romance, Mystery

Starting over sucks. At forty, Miles Koprowski thought he had life all figured out. He had a nice car, a hot young lover, and a cushy job… and then he didn’t. Call it fate, or karma, or a downturn in the market, but this opinionated cynic is now forced to play rent-a-cop in a dying office building in the burbs just to make ends meet. Throw in an unhinged ex, a coworker who hates him, and a hot new boss, and suddenly everything is uncertain.

Miles doesn’t plan on liking the night shift or becoming embroiled in a mystery that reawakens old passions and puts him in danger. And he certainly doesn’t plan on falling for the overbearing head of security, Colton Decker, former soldier and doting dad. But nights like these can change a man, make him start to believe there’s more to life than a high paying job and a warm body in his bed. With a thief on the loose and his new job in jeopardy, Miles will have to decide what’s truly important. He might discover things he never knew he wanted… as long as he makes it through the night.

“Why don’t you watch where you’re going, dumb—” I managed to sputter before my mouth stopped working entirely and dropped open. The ability to speak, to think, deserted me at the first sight of the hunky stranger standing in front of me, his face contorted with apology as he tried to mop up my sodden jacket with a handful of napkins. He was a few inches taller than me—closer to six feet—and on the stocky side. His broad shoulders filled out a nicely tailored suit, and he projected an air of confidence that I’d never be able to pull off in a million years. He was clean-shaven too, with a dark buzz cut that made me long to run a hand over his head simply to feel the texture. And gorgeous. Did I happen to mention that?
In short, he was the kind of guy you’d want to be stranded with on a deserted island; the kind you could count on to save you. If you were so inclined. Me? I didn’t need saving.
A pair of friendly, light-colored eyes now stared back at me, bemused. Odd that his lips were moving, but no sound was coming out.
“What?” I asked, blinking back to attention. I couldn’t remember the last time anyone had literally made me speechless. Me, Miles Koprowski, who never met a silence he didn’t want to fill.
Hell, I couldn’t recall the last time I’d been on the receiving end of a full-body pat-down either. At least not so quickly. His hands were still drifting over my chest, wiping up the last drips of coffee, and the simple touch was doing alarming things to my heart rate.
“Are you okay?” he demanded. “Did you get burned?” Before I could react, he seized my wrist and held my hand up for inspection. Strong, lightly calloused fingers, I added to my mental list. Working hands. Dumbly, I looked down. The skin on the back of my right hand was red and stung like a son of a bitch, but it wasn’t blistering. I did flinch slightly when he skimmed his thumb over the sensitive area, but not from pain, more from the touch itself. My entire body lit up, as though I’d stuck a finger in an electrical socket. “It doesn’t look too bad. I think you’ll live. Put some aloe on it when you get home.”
“Doctor?” I croaked, because really, that would be too perfect.
“Nope. Just seen a lot of injuries.” His lips twitched with barely contained amusement. “Sorry to disappoint you.” Sense of humor, check.

About the Author:

CHRIS SCULLY lives in Toronto, Canada where she grew up spinning romantic stories in her head. When the tedium of a corporate day job grew too much, she took a chance and found her creative escape in writing. Always searching for something different, she has discovered a home in M/M romance and strives to give her characters the happy endings they deserve.

Author Contact:

What is the book you would bring with you on a desert island? That is so tough. For all that I am an avid reader, I don’t often re-read books. Especially those I love. I’m always fearful that a second read dilutes my original experience. They stay on a pedestal inside my head. It can take me many years before I will go back and re-read them. I always thought if I were shipwrecked that I would prefer to have music with me rather than books. I can always make up stories in my head, but music is something I would never be able to recreate.
When and why did you begin writing?
As an introvert, I have always made up stories in my head. It probably wasn’t until high school, when I took a creative writing class that I started to actively write. Even then I was doing my own thing. I have no idea what my tenth grade teacher must have thought upon reading my introspective, fictional account of Montgomery Clift’s last days! My writing has been off and on since then. Writing is an escape for me. Usually I fall back on it when something’s missing in my life.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?High school. I won an English award in ninth grade and that encouragement stayed with me. I wrote for the school paper, published in the yearbook and submitted to all sorts of contests (that I never won). After college is when I started writing seriously—I was living in a different city from my family and was a bit lonely. It’s been on and off since then. But even when I’m not actually writing on paper, I always considered myself a writer because I had all these stories in my head.

INTERVIEW: David B. Connor #MMRomance #Holiday

Hello David and welcome to The Hat Party! <3 Thank you so much for subjecting yourself to the RANDOMNESS that is a Raine O'Tierney interview! Please don your best hat, and let's get started!

You’ve been given the opportunity to go back in time and give your 13-year-old self a message. What do you say?

There are others out there just like you, you just have to search them out. The world is not as scary as your home life would lead you to believe it is. It gets better. It also gets worse. It doesn’t stay one way all the time.

You’ve just been made ruler of the earth for one hour—what’s your first command?

Everyone who has more than enough must give some to someone who doesn’t, and that includes animals in need of food, warmth, and love.

Describe yourself using song lyrics.

One is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do.

You have 200 words—Make. Me. Swoon. (PLEASE!)

Tousled hair you try to tame with your fingers, cheeks red from a stiff breeze in March, stumbling when the dog leash gets tangled around your ankles because the dog is a bit rambunctious at the sight of a stranger. Despite the chaos, there’s a smile on your face that says you adore him and his antics. This is when you are most attractive to me.

What makes you inexplicably happy?

The feel of soft fur and a wet nose against my cheek.

What is your biggest, most-wild writing dream? (Nothing is too outlandish!)

That Quadruple Flip will become a ABC Family movie—The Cutting Edge 4Quadruple Flip—around the time of the 2018 Winter Olympics. The part in there where the athletes protest the treatment of gays in Russia will catch on and even though no one can go back in time, someone will say something. The movie’s director also falls in love with me, but that’s another story.

What is your favorite literary quote?

So many. There is one I cannot find that says something like “No writer has a full or content life; that’s why he/she creates other worlds.” I also like, from John Irving In One Person-- “Novels are just another kind of cross-dressing.”

What one food item do you consider to be your arch nemesis?

Fried chicken. I am not a bad cook, but burnt, raw, or rubber, those are the only three ways I seem to know how to make friend chicken.

Biggest mistake you’ve made in your writing career and what you’ve learned from it.

Double Flip. My first book for Dreamspinner. It sold well, but it was not written well at all. The reviews were awful, and rightfully so. It had potential, but I really wish I could go back and write it all over again. I had no clue what the genre was all about and wrote it like the stuff in the back of gay men’s magazines. I am a MUCH better writer since then, and I only hope some of the people who read it and think that is all I am capable of will give me a second chance. I learned that editors have your best interests at heart and that one should always know the genre –READ some of the books from the publisher you are submitting to beforehand—and that I can always do better.

And finally, for THE most important question of all: what kinds of dachshunds are the BEST kinds of dachshunds?

The kind that sit on your lap and give face kissies.

Seth Anderson thought he was a finalist in the Hot Jack cologne modeling contest for King's Department Store, but Sandy King, upon reviewing Seth's photo and resume, just wanted to jump him like a horny kangaroo. Seth quickly learns there is pain behind Sandy’s bravado and a sweet, lonely man behind the act. A holiday romance blossoms like the flowers on an Australian Christmas Bell. When Seth, used to a family dynamic without boundaries, oversteps by outing Sandy to his estranged grandmother, however, everything changes. Sandy is furious. He breaks things off with Seth and threatens to return to the US. As Christmas approaches, any chance at happily ever after seems as likely as a snowstorm in Sydney. It would take a miracle from above to set things right. Good thing ‘tis the season. oaches, any chance at happily ever after seems as likely as a snowstorm in Sydney. It would take a miracle from above to set things right. Good thing ‘tis the season.

SETH ANDERSON stood beneath two massive black iron Christmas angels that hung above the entrance to King’s Department Store, Sydney, Australia’s second biggest retailer. His wavy black hair bounced as he bopped his head to “Magic Jack” on his MP3 player. King’s had held a Christmas song writing contest in 2013. “Magic Jack,” about a magical flying male kangaroo—a jack—who takes over for Santa’s tired lead reindeer on Christmas Eve, had somehow won.

Christmas cards bring images of horse-drawn sleighs and cheeks so rosy. Snowflakes fall and stockings hang above a Christmas fire so cozy. Frosty panes, boughs tipped in white, warm cider in a pot. A kangaroo, an outcast jack, says, “Why’s it so damned hot!”

It was an okay song that had made it to the radio. A few weeks before the 2014 Chrissie season officially kicked off, Seth softly sang along to the silly, somewhat suggestive tune flowing through his earbuds.

“I wish I lived at the North Pole. I’d really love the chill. I long to build a snowman and race my sled downhill. The hot Australian Christmas weather makes me feel so blue. Oh dear, Santa, could you use a magic kangaroo? I’m a flying jack, a magic jack, a hot and steamy flying jack. One day I jumped, and I took off and flew to Perth and back. From New South Wales to Alice Springs to Kalgoorlie-Boulder, I traveled ’round the outback lands just wishing it was colder.”

Seth, too, wondered what it’d be like to play in snow. As a child in Sydney, he had never even felt snow. Maybe someday, he thought. At twenty-eight, on a late November morning, he was at a “Magic Jack” audition of sorts. An Internet technician at a huge Sydney office complex, Seth did some amateur acting on the side. This role, if he got it, was more modeling than acting. Still, once he’d been talked into it, he thought it could be fun.

*What inspired you to write Tidings of Comfort and Joey Down Under?

I was just coming up with punny titles when I looked up anthology calls online. Tidings of Comfort and Joey popped into my head. When I saw the Dreamspinner call for holidays around the world… Joey… baby kangaroo… the story practically wrote itself. Actually, most of my stories do. I NEVER have the slightest clue what they are going to be about. “Didn’t see that coming,” I say a lot.

*Is there anything special you’d like us to know about your book?

I have wanted to be part of the Dreamspinner Advent since I first saw Paul Richmond’s cover with the guy in the open bathrobe in his Christmas briefs from a few years back. Men are visual. The cover was sexy and funny and I fell in love with it and Paul’s artwork right then and there.

*What are your hopes for this title?

I want people to Feel something… a chuckle, an “Aww” on one page and a touch of anger on another when Seth makes a bone head move we all might make. I’d love to simply hear: “Good story. When can I look forward to another?” I’d also love to hit the Dreamspinner Bestseller list again, which Double Flip  did, but… See above.

BOOK BLAST: Beany Sparks' Christmas, Snow, and a... Merman? plus #Giveaway! #MMRomance

Book Name: Christmas, Snow and…a Merman?
Author Name: Beany Sparks
Pages or Words: 21,412 words
Publisher: eXtasy Books
Cover Artist: Latrisha Waters
Categories: Fantasy, Gay Fiction, M/M Romance

It’s up to Calder to show his Christmas-hating merman what the season is really about.

Calder lives a quiet life in his cabin on the edge of the bay. He has his best friend Erik and for now, that’s enough. Then his life takes an unexpected turn when an event causes him to come face-to-face with a real merman.
Tamesis knows that soon the waters will freeze over, which means that dreaded time of the year is coming—Christmas. As a merman he is not affected by the change in water temperature, but when it freezes over he can no longer spend his days watching the man on the shore. That all changes when Calder falls into Tamesis’s world.

The more the two get to know each other, the more they start to care, but will they be brave enough to admit their feelings? Or will Tamesis end up with an even bigger reason to hate Christmas?

Excerpt: The man ducked his head in what Calder guessed was embarrassment. “Forgive me, my name is Tamesis.”

“Nice to meet you, Tamesis, my name is Calder.” Calder would have held out his hand, but he didn’t want to move from his cocoon.

“Yes, I know,” Tamesis said as he smiled at him.

Calder frowned. “How do you know my name?”

Calder watched, fascinated as Tamesis blushed. Between the blush and Tamesis’s green hair, it reminded Calder of Christmas.

I need to figure out a way to get home.

“Uh, well you see, I’ve been watching you,” Tamesis admitted.

Calder raised an eyebrow at that. “Because that doesn’t sound creepy at all.”

“It doesn’t?” Tamesis looked relieved.

Okay…Looks like he doesn’t understand sarcasm.

“I’m sorry, it sounds very creepy actually. I was being sarcastic when I said it didn’t.”

Calder watched as Tamesis seemed to slump down in his position, all while still lying on his side next to Calder. A feeling of sadness flooded him and Calder realised that it was like all of the other times he’s felt emotions flood him when he’d looked out over Hudson Bay.

Giving into his instincts, he snuggled a little closer to Tamesis, who tightened his arms around Calder. In that moment Calder realised that not only was Tamesis holding him, but they were both naked.

“Um, Tam? Why are we naked?” he asked, then looked up into Tamesis’s eyes.

“You were cold, I had to save you. The clothes would have hindered that,” Tamesis replied, but he looked confused for some reason.

“I see, and how did you save me? How were you able to survive without needing to be saved yourself?” Calder asked curiously. His curiosity grew when he saw Tamesis gulp and seem to gather his courage.

“The cold does not affect me—”

“Why not?” Calder interrupted.

“Because.” Tamesis paused and looked into Calder’s eyes, almost as if he was searching for something. He must have found it because he continued, and what he said shocked Calder right to his core.

“I’m a merman.”

The hospital room was easy enough to find once Jason let the central desk know who he was looking for. At the end of the long white hall was a bay of rooms, set in a circular pattern around the nurses’ station and Justin’s room was on the far right. Glass doors allowed Jason to see into the room and see his cousin’s smiling face talking to a doctor in a long white lab coat. The room was filled with a half dozen vases filled with colorful flowers ranging from wild flowers to orchids and even roses. Odd considering Justin only knew Jason and Eric in the city and Justin’s family hadn’t been contacted about the accident.

Justin beamed when Jason entered the room holding his own bouquet of daisies and a get well card purchased from the downstairs gift shop. Justin lay propped upright with his left leg in a cast and elevated on a stack of pillows. An IV was hooked to his arm and a few scratches covered his forearms and left cheek but other than that he looked good. The benefits of youth had been on his side when the accident occurred.

Born and raised in a small coastal town in northern Québec, Bey spent his early summers on his uncle’s boat and running wild on the beaches of the surrounding islands, lighting fires and building huts out of driftwood and fishermen’s nets. As an adult, he eventually made his way to university and earned a degree in Art History with a strong focus on Anthropology. Primarily a portrait painter and graphic artist, Bey sat down one day and decided to write about the two things that he felt most passionate about: sex and the sea.

Bey currently lives in the wilds of Montréal with his best buddy, a spotty pit bull named Murphy. Caged: Love and Treachery on the High Seas is his first novel.

- Varian Krylov
Since her girlhood in a sunny coastal town in California, Varian Krylov has nurtured a love of words and a curiosity about the deep, dark forces at work in human nature, especially sexuality, and how they often paradoxically twine with our tenderest impulses. Her stories tend to explore the sometimes fine line between what arouses, and what frightens, what we’re driven to, and what we’re ashamed of.

As witty and seductive as I am sarcastic and self-deprecating, I spend as much time as possible thinking and writing about sex. No, not dense, inscrutable post-feminist texts on media representations of gender and the body--that was grad school. I write stories--short stories, novels, and starting a few weeks ago, screenplays--most of which poke and prod and the dark little corners of human sexuality. In a sense, nothing's taboo, anymore. There's no act, no fetish that hasn't been made utterly banal in the proliferation of porn. What intrigues and excites me is the exploration of the conflicting impulses, the twisted psychology and turbulent emotions of people who find themselves unable to resist desires that lie beyond their own moral boundaries.

- Mathew Ortiz
Mathew Ortiz was born in Nuremburg Germany in 197O, the son of a quiet Army man and his loud Hungarian wife. Spending only two years in Germany, his family relocated to Fort Smith, Arkansas where he spent his youth in exile. Here is where he attended primary school and college, obtaining a degree in Nursing. He moved to Phoenix and met the bane and love of his life, Tim. When not on his laptop watching Are You Being Served or Keeping Up Appearances, Matt can be found either napping or reading with gusto.

- Joseph Lance Tonlet
Joseph is a born and raised Southern Californian--with a twenty-year stint of living in the Midwest. He loves the laid-back lifestyle of San Diego and considers himself lucky to live where people dream of vacationing.

A lifelong reader of m/m fiction, he began his writing career one night sitting at his MacBook and has never looked back. He writes to bring the characters he dreams about to life.
